Do you really save more with satellite cable?
by Colin Yates

With the growing popularity of satellite technology I had to
ask myself is satellite television really cheaper then cable
television. To be quite honest I was rather skeptical before
I sat down and did the math.

There have been a lot of promotions with satellite
television providers and they have been offering free direct
TV systems. So I began to wonder why anyone would just give
a product like that away for free. It just seemed rather odd
to me. So I sat down and did a comparison for myself to see
if satellite television is really cheaper then cable. I was
very surprised that in the long run you do save a lot of
money and also receive more channels. However be careful
about local channels, they might not be available for free
in your area so that is something to check out before
ordering. They have packages that include your local
channels, which was an issue in the past when people ordered
satellite cable. They would get it then find out that they
had to pay extra for their local channels which made no
sense. I took a look at the list where local channels are
available and it's pretty broad, so most people shouldn't
worry.

I still wanted to know if there was a hidden fee to the free
equipment. The only things that I found out are you will
have to pay the shipping and handling fees yourself. Some
may think that is a catch, but after looking at the
installation pricing for cable I concluded it's the same
deal. The free offer is for regular satellite television,
which is a steal for most people. If you are looking for up
grades such as HDTV or DVR you will need to pay for your own
equipment. You are buying the equipment and it is yours to
keep. Cable television offers upgrades as well with no up
front costs, but it's more like an equipment rental. So in a
few years time you will have invested just as much money for
your upgrade.

The free offer does ask for you to pay for the shipping and
handling cost, which should be under $40.00, which is close
to installation fees by the regular cable company. I did
find the catch to the offer and it requires you to make an
annual commitment. So if you chose it you will be obligated
for one year to keep your satellite cable. Which is still a
deal if you are positive you want satellite cable. The only
thing I would question is if satellite cable will work in
your area. There are some circumstances in which the
location you are in will prevent you from receiving
satellite signals.

I compared all the pricing between satellite television and
cable television and found that you will get more for your
buck with satellite. It makes no difference which package
you chose even if it is the highest priced available you
will still get more channels then cable can offer.

I started off not believing it, but satellite television
offers are really more cost friendly. Sit down and do the
math for yourself.
